Statue of the week: Number 10

November 21, 2010

This weeks statue is not in Oslo.  This weekend I went to Stavanger, which is on the southwest cost of Norway.  It’s a plane ride away or at least 8 hours in a car.

I was in Stavanger for a conference – NOIF – the Norwegian Prosthetist/Orthotist (or orthopaedic engineers as we are called in Scandinavia) Association.  It was mostly in norsk with the odd bit of svensk and me and one other person talking in English.  I met lots of new people and a few old ones as well – graduates from Salford!

Some of the Salford graduates in Norway (and one lecturer!)

I didn’t get to see any of Stavanger because of the conference, but I have been there before – to visit a Salford student on placement about 11 years ago.  Stavanger is the 3rd largest city in Norway and is home to Norways oil industry (there is even an oil museum – Iwent there 11 years ago.  There is also a famous natural landmark that you can walk to (again I did this 11 years ago, after making a packed lunch for myself from the hotel’s buffet breakfast)- Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock)

Anyway, what about the statue!  This week it’s from Stavanger – you knew that already didn’t you!  It’s by Breikavantnet lake and is of a little boy and some ducks.
