Statue of the week: 19

February 6, 2011

So having exhausted my store of statue photos (with the exception of some from Vigeland Park), I took my camera out this weekend whilst I was busy doing my messages (this is a Scottish term for doing your shopping and other tasks – see this is an educational blog – statues, Norwegian and now Scottish English!).

This week’s statue is one of 3 in Solli plass.  On the north side of Solli plass is Sommerroparken, a very small and very narrow park. There you will find “The man with the keys”.  It was a gift from the painter Fritz Thaulow.  This is a copy of one of the figures from the “Citizens of Calais” by Auguste Rodin.  This copy was unveiled in 1902. I think he looks rather creepy.
