Statue of the week: number 39

July 5, 2011

There seems to be a fondness for statues of naked people in Oslo.  Apart from the statue of Vigeland himself, all the statues in Vigeland Park are naked.  Many of the statues by the Rådhus (Town Hall) are naked (well the ones of women are – the men appear to be fully clothed).  These two have managed to remember their hats and shoes but nothing else and they’ve definitely not had a bikini wax 🙂 They are situated in Bryggetorget in the Aker Brygge area of Oslo were we had our first utepils.  This area used to be a ship yard but has now been redeveloped into a shopping/restaurant/bar/office complex/swanky flats area.  It reminds me slightly of the Albert Dock in Liverpool but all the buildings are new (and there’s no Fred and his map – do they still do that on This Morning?).

Enjoy!

The naked ladies remind me of Lewis’s man! I wonder what happened to him when the building was sold. No, Fred and his map disappeared when This Morning moved to London some years ago. Maybe it should move back north, now that some television programmes are moving to Salford. The reclining lady seems to have a coffee cup, is that part of the statue or is it litter?

I think it’s brus (a soft drink) rather than coffee. I’m sure Lewis’s man is still there.

I was shocked when I first saw these on Aker Brygge, must have been my British prudishness!! It was actually the day I was here for my interview, walking around the city for hours to see if I could live here.
