047 048 049Oslo was renamed Christiania in 1624 after Christian IV of Denmark and Norway ordered its rebuilding after a fire destroyed the city for the 14th time. It was rebuilt near Akershus Festning (Castle). The original name of Oslo was restored in 1925. The statue is of Christian IV’s glove pointing to where Oslo was rebuilt.
